What Bryan Scott’s Injury Means For The Philadelphia Stars

The Philadelphia Stars were dealt with a tough blow this week, as it was announced that starting quarterback Bryan Scott is out indefinitely. Scott suffered a knee injury in Sunday night’s loss to New Jersey. Due to this, the quarterback has decided to take some time off to recover.

Before the injury, Scott was shaping up to be the league’s best quarterback. He led the league in both passing yards and touchdowns after week two, and put up incredible numbers against Pittsburgh.

With Scott now out for the foreseeable future, the team is going to have to figure out how to generate offense without their main playmaker.

What Can Cookus Bring?

Case Cookus will likely take the QB1 position moving forward for Bart Andrus and his group. Cookus has shown some potential in past spring leagues/NFL practice squads, but never saw much action. Case was with the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL, but did not see playing time because of PJ Walker’s outstanding ascension.

In Sunday night’s game against New Jersey, Cookus played quite well. He finished the night with 146 yards on 13/20 passing, and threw an incredible touchdown pass to Diondre Overton.

Down the stretch, Cookus struggled to find a rhythm, but that is to be expected. Considering Scott has taken the main load of snaps (both in game and at practice), it is going to take some time for Cookus to adjust.

Being thrown into the starting position – in a brand new league – is no easy feat. But, as Cookus continues to learn Bart Andrus’ playbook, the offense should be in a decent position. Cookus has quite a bit of talent – he just needs the opportunity to showcase it.

Final Thoughts

With the Michigan Panthers on deck in week four, this is a chance for Philadelphia to regain the second seed in the North Division. Considering how fierce the Panthers defense has been so far, it will be quite the performance test for Cookus. Can he live up to expectations? Only time will tell.

As for Scott, this is a tough circumstance to be hit with. That being said, we have the utmost confidence in the young star to rebound and come back even stronger. We wish you the best in your recovery, Bryan! Get well soon. We can’t wait to see you back on the football field.
