Week 5 of the USFL is here, and after this weekend we’ll officially be halfway through the inaugural season.
The Birmingham Stallions are still undefeated and the Pittsburgh Maulers are still searching for their first win? Could all that change this week, let’s take a look at the matchups.
The USFL has been hosting special events for their showcase matchups and this weekend is no different. For week 5, the league is holding family night on Sunday, where you could scoop up a free Stallions plushie. While supplies last, or course.
This weekend is Family Weekend in Birmingham! 🙌

Michigan Panthers (1-3) at Tampa Bay Bandits (2-2)
Friday – 8PM EST – USA – Stream – Tickets
Michigan is coming off a tough loss, after missing a field goal to lose last weeks matchup by 1. Since then, we’ve seen Coach Fisher make a few adjustments, bringing in Cole Murphy (K) and Josh Love (QB). Reggie Corbin has also been firing on all cylinders since coming off of in jury, so this could be enough to get them back on track.
Tamp Bay has been a mixed bag so far. Ta’amu has been playing fine, but his receivers have been leaving him out to dry. They’ll look to rebound after a close loss to the undefeated Birmingham Stallions last week, but it could be a tough one to pull out.
New Orleans Breakers (3-1) at New Jersey Generals (3-1)
Saturday – 3PM EST – FOX – Stream – Tickets
The Breakers came out on top of the Gamblers last week after Sloter led his team down the field for a game ending touchdown. Although they came out with the win, they had a total of four turnovers against Houston, and almost gave them their second win this season. Even with the picks, Sloter was able to rack up over 500-yards on the game. This should be concerning for anyone going up against Coach Fedora and co.
New Jersey also continued their winning streak last week, staying undefeated since they lost in the opening week against the Stallions. Both teams lone loss is to Birmingham, so it should be a fun game to watch.
Birmingham Stallions (4-0) at Philadelphia Stars (2-2)
Sunday – 12PM EST – NBC/Peacock – Stream – Tickets
Birmingham will kick things off Sunday taking on the Philadelphia Stars. Case Cookus will be returning for the Stars after coming in last week and leading the team to a slim 26-25 win over the Panthers. This week will be a huge test for the reserve quarterback, as the Stallions will be hoping to continue their streak.
The Stallions may still be undefeated, but Coach Holtz is still making adjustments. Earlier this week it was revealed that the franchise had signed former Alabama standout Bo Scarbrough. Can Cookus cook up another win? Will Birmingham stay in the W column? We’ll know soon enough.
Pittsburgh Maulers (0-4) at Houston Gamblers (1-3)
Sunday – 4PM EST – FOX – Stream – Tickets
Once again rounding out the action for the USFL is the Houston Gamblers. This time they’re taking on the winless Pittsburgh Maulers.
Coach Wilson has made some adjustments of his own going into week 5, releasing Josh Love and bringing in Vad Lee. The Gamblers have been a tale of two halves so far. Last week it looked like Houston was going to run away with it, but the Breakers fought back and closed out the game on their final drive.
If Coach Sumlin can’t get his second half strategy in shape, we could be looking at Pittsburgh’s first win of the season.
