Last October reports started surfacing that the USFL was in talks to host the 2022 season in Birmingham, AL.
The proposal would see a majority of the games housed out of the cities new Protective Stadium, with the remaining played at Legion Field. The proposal would also net the city of Birmingham two promo spots per game. Considering that all of the games this season will be aired across the FOX and NBC network of channels, that’s definitely great exposure.
We’ve seen a lot happen in regards to Birmingham acting as the central location… Except confirmation in an official capacity.
Well, it looks like the wait is coming to an end.
Jon Paepcke of WVTM13 reports that the USFL is set to make an announcement next Tuesday at Protective Stadium at 10:30am.

We knew the news was coming, but it looks like we may have an official date on when. Since Paepcke’s Tweet, we have been able to independently confirm the reports that league will be making an announcement next week.
With less than three months to go until the league hits the field, it seems that all of the pieces are now finally coming together.
The USFL started out the year revealing details on their player selection process, and giving us the first four head coaches. With the player selection meeting taking place late Feb, we expect to see the rest of the coaches announced in January.
Last week on The USFL Podcast, the hosts discussed possible timelines on the Birmingham announcement. Needless to say, it looks like The REF owes Zach a dollar.
