Ever since the USFL wrapped up their inaugural season we’ve seen teams signing free agents in preperation for season 2.
With all of the signings, it was expected that we’d see some of the teams start trimming their rosters as season 2 nears. Now that 2023 is upon us, the league has officially made their first round of releases.
In total, 19 players are now free agents and free to sign elseware. At the time of publication the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, Michigan Panthers, Pittsburgh Maulers and Memphis Showboats have made adjustments. Leaving only the New Jersey Generals, New Orleans Breakers and Philadelphia Stars keeping their roster intact.
Looking through the list, certain things become more clear. There was a lot of talk around the Pittsburgh Maulers holding onto five quarterbacks. With the cuts complete, the team is now down to three.
These releases will ultimately free up roster space among these teams, some of which could happen sooner rather than later.
