Folks, the whole world is finally beginning to realize just how important spring football is. KaVontae Turpin, MVP of the USFL, has been lighting it up for the Dallas Cowboys in preseason.
On Saturday night, Turpin took the entire country by storm. In the Cowboys matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, KaVontae put on a show. First, he returned a kickoff 98 yards to the house, giving the Cowboys a 7-3 lead.
This caught the attention of multiple big-time names. Skip Bayless, who covered Turpin during the USFL’s season, was quite impressed.
KaVontae Turpin, BOOM, 98-yard TD kickoff return. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Could the USFL MVP become the Cowboys' unsung MVP? Maybe this team DID add a player of note before camp began. LOVE THIS.
While everyone was busy talking about his kickoff return, KaVontae was busy getting back to work. Just moments later, he juked and dazzled with an 84 yard punt return for a score. While Turpin is an elite receiver, his unbelievable talents as a specialist were put on full display against Los Angeles.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL. KaVontae Turpin did it AGAIN. I'm speechless. There's really not much left to say. The #USFL MVP is simply out of this world.
KAVONTAE TURPIN STRIKES AGAIN! I BELIEVE WE HAVE A NEW NOT-SO-SECRET WEAPON! THE USFL MVP IS A DALLAS COWBOY. NOW WE HAVE A WHOLE NEW RETURN DIMENSION. NOW WE HAVE A CHANCE TO BE EVEN BETTER THAN LAST SEASON.
With his sensational performance last night, many were made aware of just how incredible KaVontae Turpin truly is. He’s been posting solid numbers in training camp, and is now getting an opportunity to showcase his unique abilities to the entire nation.
This is nothing new. KaVontae has taken a tough, long road to get to where he’s at now. He dominated in Fan Controlled Football, The Spring League, The European League Of Football – and then, of course, was awarded MVP of the USFL’s inaugural season. He shone bright for Mike Riley’s New Jersey Generals, earning All-USFL honors as a wide receiver and return specialist.
The USFL's MVP just signed a THREE YEAR deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
Now, he is showing everyone what he is capable of, on a national level. Mike McCarthy clearly likes what he’s seeing so far. In fact, he claims that the entire NFL was tuning into the United States Football League.
Had it not been for the incredible exposure and spotlight that the USFL provided Turpin with, who knows if this would have been possible. You can stay up to date on all USFL to NFL signings with our official tracker.
