PR: USFL REACHES MEDIA RIGHTS AGREEMENT WITH NBC SPORTS

USFL Inaugural Game to be Simulcast on NBC & FOX

Going into 2022 it was expected that we’d hear a rapid fire of announcements from the USFL. They have not disappointed.

Kicking off the year we learned details around their player selection process, staff/player incentives, and even learned six of the eight head coaches.

The league is set to host a media event at Protective Stadium later today, which they’re set to announce Birmingham as the home of the league in 2022. The deal will see the city host all eight teams for the first season, with as many as four in 2023.

Yesterday, event details appeared on Ticketmaster showing the first USFL game was set to see the Birmingham Stallions taking on the New Jersey Generals. Shortly after, the listing was taken down.

Although we don’t have anymore information on the game itself, it looks like we may have some on the broadcasting side.

John Ourand of Sports Business  Journal reports that the debut USFL game is set to be simulcast on NBC and FOX.

Ourand’s report also confirms that the inaugural game will indeed be the Stallions and the Generals, and will take place April 16th at 7:30pm ET.

Clearly, this is a huge deal. It’s not everyday that you see competing broadcast partners not only striking a deal, but airing the same product. In fact, this will be the first time a football game has been simulcast since the first Super Bowl… 55 years ago!

With the league set to make an announcement later this morning, we’re hopeful to get some more news on the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more.
