Last night week 4 of The Spring League kicked off, marking the beginning of the second half of the 2021 season. The league South Division teams are set to battle this Saturday, and even before the transactions have been announced we have some news.
Joining the Sea Lions is former Super Bowl Champion placekicker Garrett Hartley.

You may also remember Garrett Hartley from the XFL. Not from his playing time, but his story. He was set to join the Seattle Dragons, but was waived January 28th after failing to receive medical clearance. This stemmed from the fact that Hartley has an artificial disk in his neck. His doctors have said that he is ready to play, but the XFL’s doctors did not agree.
Garrett Hartley will now get another chance to get on the field. He’s currently the only kicker in NFL history to convert three field goals of more than 40 yards in the Super Bowl. Hartley became a Champion with the New Orleans Saints, when they defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
He’s also spent time with the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. And now, he’s headed to The Spring League.
With TSL’s killer partnership with FOX, we’re seeing the league get more and more attention as the weeks go on. This is just another example of how The Spring League is supposed to work. It gives players another opportunity to get playing time, television time and footage for scouts.
We love to see these stories come through the pipeline and we’ll be rooting for Garrett Hartley this weekend.
