Pittsburgh Steelers Reportedly Working Out Five USFL Defensive Linemen

As NFL training camps approach, USFL players continue to get tryouts with multiple NFL organizations. We’ve seen a few USFL alumni get signed by the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders.

The latest piece of news revealed that the Pittsburgh Steelers have worked out five defensive linemen who played in the USFL:

USFL Seasons

Willie Yarbury, Doug Costin, and Dondrea Tillman played for the Birmingham Stallions, ultimately winning the USFL Championship in Canton. Tillman made a major impact on Birmingham’s defensive line, notching 20 tackles and two sacks in 2022.

Yarbury was spectacular in his own regard, with 15 tackles and four sacks on the season. Interestingly enough, he was part of The Spring League in 2020 – putting on a show with the Conquerors.

Representing the North Division, Freedom Akinmoladun played for the Philadelphia Stars. During his inaugural USFL season, he racked up 23 tackles, and 3.5 sacks, serving as a leader for Bart Andrus’ defense.

Domenique Davis had an exceptional year for the Houston Gamblers. He finished the season with 57 tackles, and 3.5 sacks. While the Gamblers finished with a 3-7 record, their defensive line featured some of the USFL’s best players.

While none have been signed quite yet, it’s excellent to see such talented individuals getting a chance to showcase their abilities with an NFL organization. You can stay up to date on all the USFL players moving to the NFL with our official tracker.
