And just like that, another Philadelphia Star is on their way to the NFL. KJ Costello, QB for the Philadelphia Stars, has signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints. The team held workouts with Costello recently, and now he joins the Saints heading towards preseason.
KJ joined the Stars midway through the season, to back up Case Cookus after Bryan Scott went down. He didn’t see much playing time during the first few weeks – but, ended up filling in during the playoffs at multiple points.
In the Championship game against Birmingham, Cookus broke his leg – which left Costello with no choice but to run the offense. Outside of a couple of interceptions, it was a decent performance given the circumstances. He did throw a late touchdown to Chris Rowland which kept Philadelphia in the game.
While it wasn’t a perfect season in the USFL for Costello, he did showcase his strengths on a national stage.
Now, the young signal caller gets an opportunity to play with an NFL team, all because of the platform that the USFL provided him with. You can stay up to date on all USFL to NFL signings with our official tracker.
