Noel Mazzone Reportedly Set To Join New Orleans Breakers as OC

Last month the USFL revealed all eight head coaches for their 2022 season, and we’re already starting to see some of them build out their staff. The USFL Draft is less than a week away, so it would make sense that we’d start seeing the coaches bring in their surrounding partners to help form their teams.

So far, we’ve heard about staff hires for the Philadelphia Stars, Pittsburgh Maulers, New Jersey Generals, and now the New Orleans Breakers.

Mazzone would become the second staff hire coming straight out of UCONN. Last week we reported that Jarren Horton would be joining the Pittsburgh Maulers as defensive coordinator. Now, from the offensive side Noel Mozzone is reportedly set to take the offensive coordinator role for the New Orleans Breakers.

Mazzone brings the USFL over 40-years of coaching experience, from some top-level schools. Most recently he was offensive assistant for UCONN, but prior to that he’s coached for Arizona, Texas A&M, UCLA, Arizona State and the New York Jets just to name a few.

During his time at Texas A&M, he worked under current Houston Gamblers head coach, Kevin Sumlin. Additionally, he’s known as a quarterback whisperer; a reputation gained from his time coaching Philip Rivers. As for his coaching style, he runs a spread offense with an up-tempo flair and a simplified playbook.

This seems like a perfect fit for the league, and we’d say Coach Fedora did very well with this hire.
