The New Jersey Generals have had a flurry of free agent signings over the past two weeks. RB Jalen Holston and DE Victor Jones are two of the latest, being new additions to the team.
Free Agent Signings:
• DE Victor Jones, Akron
• RB Jalen Holston, Virginia Tech— New Jersey Generals (@USFLGenerals) July 18, 2023
Neither Holston or Jones have been with the New Jersey Generals prior. Most of the re-signings have been former USFL players, but GM Billy Devaney has officially brought in two of the Generals’ draft picks from the USFL 2023 Collegiate Draft.
RB Jalen Holston
The New Jersey Generals are bringing in another running back, just days after re-signing Darius Victor and Kingston Davis.
Jalen Holston is an intriguing prospect out of Virginia Tech, who was taken 69th overall by the Generals in the USFL 2023 Draft.

Holston was typically never the #1 back, but saw an uptick in production during his senior season. Jalen posted 321 rushing yards and five touchdowns for the Hokies. Considering the Generals are likely moving away from Trey Williams, Holston will have an opportunity to become RB2 or RB3 in Mike Riley’s system heading towards 2024.
DE Victor Jones
Defensive End Victor Jones was taken 31st overall by New Jersey in the USFL 2023 Draft, and now signs with the team ahead of the 2024 season.
Jones played his college ball mainly at Wyoming, before transferring to Akron for his senior year. While Jones registered impressive stats during his time at Wyoming, it wasn’t until his last season at Akron that he showcased his full potential.
Jones finished the 2022 season at Akron with:
53 total tackles
11.5 TFL
5.5 sacks
3 PD
Victor is clearly a monster in the trenches, and could prove to be a valuable piece next to the likes of Toby Johnson, Hercules Mata’afa, Kolin Hill, etc. for the Generals.
Final Thoughts
It isn’t surprising to see the New Jersey Generals so aggressive in free agency, even though the USFL season ended less than a month ago.
Mike Riley and Billy Devaney have typically hunted after free agents quickly in the past, and this offseason is no different:
Wednesday: TE Wes Saxton. Jr
Thursday: Five Signings (including RB Darius Victor)
Friday: Four Signings (including S Paris Ford)
Sunday: Two Signings
After a disappointing 3-7 campaign in 2023, the Generals will look to retool and rebuild their roster heading towards 2024. Victor Jones and Jalen Holston are the two latest additions to accomplishing that goal.
