New Jersey Generals Re-Sign QB Eric Barriere For 2024

The New Jersey Generals have finally brought back a quarterback. Eric Barriere re-signed with the team last night, and is currently the only QB who is set to play with the Generals in 2024.

Eric Barriere has been one of the underutilized signal callers in the USFL so far. He signed with the Michigan Panthers in 2022, and ended up seeing playing time in a week nine matchup against these very Generals – throwing a touchdown to Joe Walker in the loss.

However, 2023 would tell a much different story. Eric was always QB3 in Michigan, as head coach Mike Nolan never gave him a chance to prove himself despite the offensive struggles.

With just a few weeks left in the season, Eric Barriere was released by the Panthers, which was a strange move. However, he was almost instantly picked up by the New Jersey Generals, spending the final three weeks of the season with the team.

Now, he will have an opportunity to prove himself in 2024 with New Jersey. Sources close to the situation have indicated that the organization is excited to see what he can do on the football field as a starter.

New Jersey already had their eye on Eric, and were planning on signing him once the 2023 season concluded. Since Michigan released him early, it was a golden opportunity for GM Billy Devaney to scoop Eric Barriere up.

Final Thoughts

There is no denying the talent that Eric Barriere possesses. He was a standout at Eastern Washington University, winning the Walter Payton Award during the 2021 season.

Throughout his college career at Eastern Washington, Eric threw for 13,803 yards and 121 touchdowns. He took the nation by storm, and hopefully will be given a legitimate opportunity with the Generals in 2024. Time will tell.

  1. I am excited to see what Eric Barriere can do. His stats are pretty amazing which tells me he has dropped back many a time. A coach would not let him have that many opportunities if he saw no talent. I look forward to him having a full camp under Riley. What I like about the USFL is it gives players an opportunity to work for good coaches who will help players achieve some of their dreams. DJ has a great skillset. Like other quarterbacks that can’t read the play he becomes limited, but I honestly say it was so good to follow in all his successes. I see on Wikipedia he has retired. I think that makes sense. He had excellent success in college, but in the NFL he was 0-5 with one interception. Not one completion is so sad. He followed that up with a poor season for the Maulers, where it seemed all his fight was gone. To his credit, he came back with the Generals and was all in. Unfortunately, he is mentally sure of himself. Whenever, he felt the pressure to succeed he failed. When he became angry by past failures he put it all on the line and showed a strong arm, ponpoint accuracy and the heart of a QB. A QB needs to be steady and above all else the guy you count on to have it all. Exit Lauletta. Dakota Prukop was probably the guy most suited to be the Generals quarterback last year. We don’t know where he will end up and if he will ever get the chance again, but he is back to being the run-first quarterback backing up for the Bombers. What we can see is that Riley sees what QBs do well. My guess is that he sees something in Barriere will allow him to help the team. I look forward to seeing what that is.

  2. Sorry the player who Wilipedia says retired is Kyle Lauletta. I missed a sentence there. As far as I no DJ remains active as he should.
