Last month the USFL finally revealed all eight head coaches for the league this season. With the draft around the corner, we’ve started to see some of the coaches start to build out their staff.
Last week Pittsburgh Mauler head coach, Kirby Wilson, joined TribLive where he leaked the news that Jarren Harton would be coming in as defensive coordinator for the franchise.
Today, it looks like we have another piece to Wilson’s staff. Hot Seat College Coaches reports that John Tomlinson will be joining on as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Maulers.
Congratulations to @JTsWalk former Passing Game Coordinator at Juniata College and NFL Coach on becoming the OC/QB Coach for the @USFLMaulers. One of the BEST QB developers in the profession. #WellDeserved #OffensiveCoordinator #NFL #USFL pic.twitter.com/RGnD62sI7I

John Tomlinson most recently served as game coordinator and quarterback coach for Juniata College.
Tomlinson had three stints doing the National Football League’s Bill Walsh Minority Internship. In 2019, he was the Running Backs coach intern with the Las Vegas Raiders. He was the assistant QB coach from May 2017 to January 2018 and did offensive quality control for the Cleveland Browns. In 2010, he worked on the staff of the Indianapolis Colts, working with the quarterbacks.
He comes to the league with a vase array of experience, ranging from high school to college. Beyond being a steppingstone for players, spring league’s are also a great place for coaches to hone their skills. Ultimately, the USFL can be a launching pad on and off the field.
The USFL draft is set for next week, so we expect to see a few more names popup before the event takes place.
