Indianapolis Colts Signing USFL Birmingham Stallions TE La'Michael Pettway

Indianapolis Colts Signing Stallions TE La’Michael Pettway

The Indianapolis Colts are signing Birmingham Stallions tight end La’Michael Pettway, following a successful workout earlier today. Per Aaron Wilson, the Colts cut tight end Kaden Smith to presumably make room for Pettway.

La’Michael Pettway has been in the USFL for the last two seasons, performing well when his name is called upon. In 2022, he racked up 307 receiving yards and two touchdowns with the Michigan Panthers, as the team went 2-8 that season.

However, Pettway joined the Birmingham Stallions midseason in 2023, and made an impact. He caught a game winning touchdown in week eight against the Philadelphia Stars, which put the team in a position to clinch a playoff berth.

La’Michael wrapped up the USFL 2023 season with 99 receiving yards and two scores, playing a role in a USFL Championship run and title with the Stallions.

Birmingham >> NFL

The Birmingham Stallions to NFL pipeline has been quite busy this offseason:

QB Alex McGough (Green Bay)
WR Austin Watkins (Cleveland)
WR Davion Davis (Arizona)
KR/WR Deon Cain (Philadelphia)
TE Jace Sternberger (Buffalo)
C Cole Schneider (Green Bay)
K Brandon Aubrey (Dallas)
CB Lorenzo Burns (Cleveland)

It is still unknown as to where DT Khalil Davis will land, as his contract was terminated late last week. He recently had a workout with the Houston Texans.

La’Michael Pettway is the 16th USFL player to officially sign with an NFL team, with more to come. Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
