Last June it was revealed that the United States Football League (USFL) would be retuning in 2022 on FOX. Since then, we’ve learned a whole lot more about the league. Not only is FOX a broadcast partner, they’re also majority owner.
Additionally, the league has signed a multi-year media rights deal with NBC.
We expected that the USFL would be dropping a lot of news to kickoff the new years, and they have not disappointed.
We’ve learned about the player selection process, staff/player incentives, kickoff date and most of the coaches.
Tomorrow, the USFL is set to hold a media event at Protective Stadium to officially announce Birmingham, Al as their central hub for 2022. The deal could see the league host as many as four franchises in Birmingham in 2023, before all teams report to their respective cities for the third season.
Thanks to a eagle-eyes Twitter user, it looks like we may have some insight on the inaugural matchup.

Long time spring football support, Van Hurst, shared an image from Ticketmaster showing the inaugural game for the USFL will see the Birmingham Stallions taking on the New Jersey Generals. The matchup is set to take place at Protective Stadium at 6:30pm on April 16th.
It’s also listed specifically as the inaugural game, which would seem like it’s a possibility we only get one matchup for opening day.
At the moment, that’s all the information it displays. Upon clicking “Event Details” it displays a message stating “On sale date and time are in the works – please check back!”. Looks like we’ll just need to wait a little longer for the ticket pricing and other details.
With the league set to hold their media event in Birmingham tomorrow, and the event details just popping up, it’s very possible we get more information on the tickets and schedule.
UPDATE: Since the publication of our article, the event has been removed from Ticketmaster. Now, upon visiting the page you’ll be greeted with a message stating “Sorry… there are currently no upcoming events.”
We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out in regards to the upcoming 2022 USFL season. Stay tuned for more.
