Former Dallas Renegades QB Eric Dungey to Join The Spring League Blues

Eric Dungey Invited to Bengals Camp — Will Not Play in The Spring League

The Spring League is set to kickoff tonight over a six-week season with every game airing on FOX, FS1 or FS2. Earlier this week The Spring league released the full rosters for it’s North and South Divisions, with many former names from the AAF and XFL.

One of those names was former Dallas Renegades QB, Eric Dungey. That was until just earlier today. Dungey took to Twitter to announce that he has been incited to a mini-camp for the Cincinnati Bengals and will now miss the upcoming TSL season.

Dungey was set to take the reigns for the Blues under head coach and former Houston Roughnecks defensive coordinator Ted Cotrell.

Eric Dungey is Syracuse’s all-time leader in career passing yards, second in completions and third in touchdown passes. He is one of the most productive quarterbacks in Orange history. Forced into action as a true freshman when veteran Terell Hunt got hurt, Dungey played with grit, toughness and determination.

He helped lead Syracuse to an upset over defending the defending national champion Clemson Tigers in the Dome in 2017. Dungey then led the Orange to a 10 win 2018 season capped by a Camping World Bowl win over West Virginia. Syracuse finished that season 10-3 and ranked 15th in the country in the final polls.

This is a blow for The Spring league, but a huge win for the former XFL star. The Blues still have Deondre Francois and Conner Kaegi to fall back on, so I wouldn’t be too worried about them yet. The Blues debut this Friday against the Sea Lions at 9:30pm EST on FS1, and you can bet that the coaching room is already making adjustments.
