Back in June of 2021 it was revealed that the United States Football League (USFL) would be returning on FOX. Since then, we’ve learned a whole lot more about the league. Not only is FOX a broadcast partner, but a majority owner.
Last October reports first started circulating that the league was in talks with representatives from Birmingham, AL to host their inaugural season. Additionally, the proposal would see them net two promotional spots per game. Considering that every game will be televised across the FOX and NBC family of channels, this is great exposure for the city.
Going into 2022 it was expected that we’d see a rapid fire of announcements from the league, which they have been knocking out of the park. Of everything we’ve heard, we still haven’t gotten official confirmation from the USFL around their central hub. That being said, it’s pretty obvious that it’s Birmingham.
Well, the wait is almost over.
Ahead of the league’s media event at Protective Stadium next Tuesday, everything is looking to be finalized for good. Todd Eagle of WVTM 13 reports that the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) board has voted to ratify the contract with the USFL ahead of the upcoming announcement.

It was just a week or so back that Birmingham City Council voted to allow usage of Legion Field, which included an extra $500,000 in funding. Now with the vote set and the announcement around the corner, all things are coming together.
Earlier this week the USFL announced two more head coaches, leaving only two more to go. Among the group was the newly named Birmingham Stallions head coach, Skip Holtz.
Many are hoping that the league may drop the last two coaches during this media event, but we’ll just need to wait and see if the USFL has any other tricks up their sleeve for the event.
If you’re interested in watching the USFL media event, as of now it looks like your best bet is the WVTM 13 app.
