Arizona Cardinals Signing USFL Birmingham Stallions WR Davion Davis

Arizona Cardinals Signing USFL Stallions Star WR Davion Davis

The Birmingham Stallions have sent another player to the NFL. WR Davion Davis is signing with the Arizona Cardinals, just days after Austin Watkins signed with the Cleveland Browns.

Davion Davis is the fifth player to officially sign an NFL contract from the USFL. In addition, he’s the fourth Stallion to head to the NFL. Considering Deon Cain will be signing somewhere soon as well, that will make it a total of five Birmingham Stallions players who have made it to the NFL.

In the USFL this year, Davion Davis was electric. He took a unique path to the league. Originally, he was slated to play for the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL, but was cut before the season began.

Then, Davis signed with the Stallions, and the rest is history. QB Alex McGough, who won USFL MVP, looked for Davion quite often. He finished the year with 575 receiving yards, alongside four touchdowns. Week after week, Davis continued to shine against some of the USFL’s top defenses.

In the Championship game, Davion scored the first touchdown, which ultimately led to a 28-12 victory over the Pittsburgh Maulers.

During the season, Alex McGough spoke about how easy it was to work with Davion. He was always in the right place at the right time, which led to so much offensive success for Birmingham.

Final Thoughts

Now, Davis will have an opportunity to pursue an NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals ahead of Training Camp. Had it not been for the platform – and the national exposure – that the USFL provided him with, who knows if this opportunity would have come along.
