Next up for the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners in the United States Football League (USFL) is 24-year-old Treyvion Shannon.
Shannon, a 6-5, 315-pound offensive tackle, signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Breakers on May 19, 2022. He was transferred to the inactive roster on May 21.
Prior to his time at UTSA, Shannon shined on the offensive line for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College — appearing in all 19 games in his first two years of college football.
As a junior for the Roadrunners in 2018, he started all 12 games at left tackle; he earned the same position in 2019 as a senior and once again appeared in all 12 games for UTSA to help solidify an impressive offensive line during his two years in San Antonio.
He was a 2020 NFL Draft prospect but was not drafted or signed by any professional teams prior to his free agency signing with the USFL’s Breakers.
Thus far for New Orleans in 2022, Shannon has yet to see any action with only one game left on the regular-season schedule as the offensive tackle remains on the team’s inactive roster.
However, with the Breakers clinching a playoff spot in the inaugural USFL postseason, Shannon is at least getting some much-needed time on the gridiron — even if only on the practice squad — with a solid group of professional athletes.
Fun facts: As a senior at Clarksdale High School (Mississippi), Shannon garnered 35 tackles, 18 quarterback hurries and three sacks.
Due up next for Shannon and the New Orleans Breakers (6-3, 2nd place in North): a regular-season showdown against the Houston Gamblers (2-7, 4th place in North) on Sunday, June 19 at 7:30 pm Central Time on FS1.
Due up next in a pair of USFL profile snapshots: a closer look at the players from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) currently in the league.
