The Houston Gamblers debut in the United States Football League (USFL) for the 2022 season has been filled with plenty of exciting games thus far.
In fact, all four games have been decided by a touchdown or less.
But at 1-3 heading into week five, the season has been quite disappointing to say the least.
Especially when it comes to the Gamblers closing out close games and learning to make the plays necessary to win in the clutch.
Take last week’s game against the New Orleans Breakers, for example.
The defense played superb from kickoff until the final few minutes of play.
And that’s when they were needed the most but couldn’t find a way to finish the job.
Giving up a game-winning drive in the final two minutes is always heartbreaking, but after the Houston defense played phenomenal for three and a half quarters of action, the Gamblers deserved to win last week.
However, deserving to win and ACTUALLY winning are two completely separate scenarios.
There’s still plenty of time for the Gamblers to salvage their season.
Six games to be exact.
But the time starts NOW, as Houston battles the winless Pittsburgh Maulers in a must-win game for the Gamblers.
Who knows; maybe a victory will start a streak that will last into the postseason…
