The Birmingham Stallions are losing star quarterback J’Mar Smith due to a season-ending hand injury, this is a tremendous loss for the team. This has lead to questions from the fans, who is going to be our quarterback now? Well, there are many opinions out there. With that being said, let’s take a look at the options already on the Stallions.
Alex McGough: Next man up
Alex McGough
Age 27
Height and Weight 6 foot 3 inches (6’3) 214 Pounds
The next man up is Alex McGough. The 6’3 quarterback was on the Stallions in the 2022 season with this leaving some hope for the team’s fan base. McGough was pretty reliable and had a pretty good 2022 season. The QB would go 39-75,460 passing yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions—The quarterback would have an overall completion percentage of 52%. Alex McGough is also known for his ability to make plays on the ground, this ability will create a new aspect to the Stallion’s offense. Mcgough would run the ball 33 times and would have 135 rushing yards while adding 3 touchdowns on the ground. The former champions are losing a key part of their offense however, in the 2022 USFL Championship game J’Mar Smith went down with an injury. Alex McGough stepped up and finished the game strong, the quarterback would go 7-10, 77 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. McGough is a very reliable opinion for the BHam Stallions, The fan base shouldn’t have to worry to much.

Jalen Morton: Moving up from QB3 to QB2
Jalen Morton
Age 25
Height and Weight 6 foot 4 inches (6’4) 226 pounds
The former Prairie View A&M University quarterback Jalen Morton has moved up on the Stallions roster from QB3 to QB2. There is no USFL statics on the QB however, there are some great college stats. The college career of the 6’4 quarterback was very good, Morton was dominant in the Passing game as well as in the Rushing attack. Looking at the career stats at Prairie View A&M University, Morton would go 372-695, 5,237 passing yards with 42 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. Great college career numbers, Stallion fans should be excited about Jalen Morton. The rushing attack was great as well, the career rushing stats were surprising at first glance. The QB would have 270 rushing attempts for 1,579 yards with 22 touchdowns on the ground. Great rushing numbers! The quarterback would have an average of 5.8 yards a pop. The Stallion fan base has 2 very solid play callers on the roster, there is 1 more spot open.

My final thoughts it’s a tremendous loss for the Stallions however, the team has some solid options on the roster already. We wish J’Mar Smith a fast recovery and we are going to miss seeing him on the field.
The Stallions will be taking on the Memphis Showboat this Saturday Night at 7 PM EST for the week 2 matchup.
