We wrap up this week’s review of former Baylor Bears playing in the United States Football League (USFL) with punter Andrew Galitz.
Galtiz, 24, was selected by the Houston Gamblers in the 33rd round of the 2022 USFL Draft.
As a true freshman in 2015, the 6-foot, 195-pound Galitz was the primary punter for the team and received All-Big 12 honorable mention — averaging 40.7 yards per punt (11 inside the 20) and seven punts of 50-plus yards.
In 2016, as a sophomore, Galitz was again named All-Big 12 honorable mention and averaged 41.6 yards per punt, appearing in all 13 games for Baylor. As a junior in 2017, he played in only five games due to a season-ending ACL injury — punting 21 times (45.2 yards per punt) with five punts inside the 20 and kicking off for the team 24 times (58.9 yards per kick).
Galitz truly shined as a senior with the Bears in 2018, garnering numerous honors — including All-Big 12 first-team punter, Waco Tribune-Herald All-Big 12 second-team, and AP All-Big 12 first-team. He completed the season averaging 42.1 yards per punt (ranked second in the league in punting) and kicked off seven times (four touchbacks).
The 24-year-old also spent a season with the Dallas Renegades in the XFL in 2020 prior to the league stopping operations due to the coronavirus pandemic, averaging 41.3 yards per punt (with a long of 59 yards).
Thus far for the Gamblers in 2022, Galitz is averaging 41.5 yards per punt (20 punts), with seven landing inside the 20.
Fun fact: Galitz was an All-American while at Rowlett High School (Texas), was rated the nation’s No. 3 kicker by ESPN prior to his time with the Bears, and ranks fourth all-time for Baylor in career games played (42).
