The offseason for any sport is one many fans have their eyes on. Who is going where, and what is my team going to do or who are they going to sign?!
Well, right now I will have you covered with a slew of articles where I will give you a list of 5 players at each position that I’d like to see and could be possible targets for the New Orleans Breakers.
First up is the most important position yet, the Quarterback! It’s still up in the air whether last year’s starter, Kyle Sloter, will return; so as Michael Keaton once said “LET’S GET NUTS”!

5. Kaleb Eleby, Former W. Michigan QB
Kaleb Eleby is a former starter for W. Michigan. He played 5 games in 2018, 6 games in 2020, and started all of 2021. He ultimatley went undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft, but earned a rookie minicamp tryout with the Saints shortly after the draft.
Eleby during his time at W. Michigan was truly an underrated and terrific passer. He helped his teammate WR Skyy Moore get drafted in the second round in the 2022 NFL Draft. With Kaleb Eleby being young and hungry, I feel he can excel in this league.
He is for the most part a pocket passer as his career rushing numbers is 75 total yards. He finished his college career with over 6000 yards passing total and 58 total TDs. Eleby would be an instant MVP candidate caliber player in this league.
4. Drew Plitt, Former Ball State QB
Drew Plitt is a very interesting quarterback. He is actually the perfect kind of player for the USFL because he needs more film for other teams to see.
In his first two years at Ball State he served primarily as a backup QB. His junior year he started all 12 games and helped lead the Ball State offense in scoring in the MAC, led the MAC in passing TDs with 24, and finished the season with a little under 3000 yards. In the COVID Shortened year he passed for over 2000 yards, 17 TDs, and completed over 65% of his passes in just 8 games which helped lead Ball State to the MAC Championship where they would ultimately win.
In his final season at Ball State he passed for over 2500 yards and 18TDs. He went undrafted in 2022, was picked up by the Bengals, played in one preseason game where he completed all six of his passes, but was waived shortly after. Plitt is a great candidate not only for the Breakers, but also the USFL too.
3. EJ Perry, Former Brown University QB
EJ Perry ladies and gentlemen. Did I mention Perry went to Brown? Oh yeah EJ Perry went to Brown University which is in the Ivy League if you didn’t know. We don’t normally talk about players, especially QBs, who played for Ivy League school and tore it up.
Perry originally attended Boston College from 2017-2018 until he decided to go play for his uncle over at Brown from 2019-2021. He only played two years during his time at Brown due to the 2020 season getting canceled due to COVID. Brown might have not had the winning records when he was their QB, but Perry put up some pretty good numbers.
In his two seasons at Brown EJ Perry finished with a little under 6,000 yards passing, over 1,100 yards rushing, and 63 total touchdowns (47 passing, 16 rushing). Not too bad for an Ivy Leaguer, eh?
NFL scouts took notice of Perry while at the 2022 NFL Combine where he turned heads with his speed and his great passing ability. He went undrafted, but played with the Jaguars during the preseason and then afterwards was cut and signed to their practice squad. Perry would be a good option for the Breakers.
2. Danny Etling, Former LSU and Packers QB
Danny Etling is a very intriguing option. He’s bounced around the NFL since being drafted in 2018.
Etling is most known for his time at LSU. While at LSU as a two year starter, he passed for over 4,500 yards and 27 passing TDs.
Not huge numbers but at the time LSU was still running the Power-I and the next year transitioning to a Matt Canada offense under new HC Ed Orgeron. During most of his NFL preseason stints Etling has made things happen with his legs more than his arm, but do not sleep on his passing ability.
Depending on the direction the Breakers go at Coach, Danny Etling could be perfect for the Breakers if we continue to run the RPO game. Etling is currently on the Packers practice squad.
1. Cole Kelley, Former Southeastern La QB
And we have reached the number one QB target on the list ladies and gentlemen! My absolute favorite QB target and the one QB who I believe is the most perfect fit for the New Orleans Breakers team, former Southeastern Louisiana Lions QB Cole Kelley!
Some may remember Kelley from that time in 2017 when LSU played Arkansas and this kid from Lafayette stepped in for the Razorbacks’ injured QB. two years later he transferred to SLU and just absolutely lit it up!
His first year as a full time starter was during the 2020 7 game COVID Spring season where he finished the season with over 2,600 yards and an 18-4 TD-INT ratio, and 7 touchdowns on the ground.
He finished that spring season as the Walter Payton Award winner which is the FCS version of the Heisman Trophy. Not too shabby, eh? In 2021 which would be his last year at SLU he would yet again shred opposing defenses with his incredibly accurate passing ability. Finishing the season with over 3,600 yards passing, a 31-6 TD-INT ratio, 390 yards rushing, and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Cole Kelley went undrafted in 2022, signed with Washington, and was waived shortly after rookie minicamp.
To top it off, Cole Kelley stands a whopping 6’7 and weighs 250 pounds. When I was at SLU I had the privilege to watch Cole in person and he reminded me of a poor man’s Big Ben. There is no one out there I feel is more perfect to lead this Breakers offense than Cole Kelley. He can run whatever offense you throw at him. At SLU he predominantly ran the Spread/RPO with a vertical passing attack. I think if the Breakers had Kelley as their QB1 that could be in the championship this season.
